“The Look” competition showcases top six Sport Clips Haircuts stylists in North America

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 2, 2018)

TheLook2018GroupPhoto.jpgThe Look stylist competition, an annual event featuring "trendy and current" men's and boys' styles, showcased the talent of six winning team members from among the franchise's almost 17,000 professional stylists. Each was chosen based on a look created and submitted before the live competition that took place at the Sport Clips Haircuts National Huddle. Recognized industry experts served as judges, including Danny Amorim - GIBS Grooming, Tonya Hanna - America Crew, Jacob Rodriguez - Sexy Hair and Jason Reyes - JPMS.

“Sport Clips is proud to have thousands of gifted stylists serving clients in more than 1,700 locations in the U.S. and Canada,” says Julie Vargas, Sport Clips senior director of Career Opportunities, also a licensed stylist with more than 25 years of experience. “We appreciate the team members who look to Sport Clips as their career choice, and we work to make sure they have the opportunity to use their skills and talent daily and on the broader stage during The Look. Sport Clips is celebrating its 25th year, and it's inspiring for those of us who have been a part of the company since the beginning to see and feel the enthusiasm they bring to their work and this competition."

Sport Clips Haircuts “The Look” National Stylist Competition

  • Winner –  Erika Remers – Kitchner, Ontario ($2,500 and prizes)
  • 2nd place (runner up) – Yanet Garcia – El Paso, TX ($1,500 and prizes)
  • 3rd place – Shay Hodges – Richmond, VA ($1,000 and prizes)
  • Honorable Mention – Jerrica Gubler, Holladay, UT ($500 and prizes)
  • Honorable Mention –  Morgan Furgerson, Conway, AR ($500 and prizes)
  • Honorable Mention –  Bonnie Holloway, Hattiesburg, MS ($500 and prizes)

As The Look winner, Erika styled a low fade with a tapered neck line, texturized it and blended the back using clippers, #1 and #2 guards, regular scissors and a feather razor. GIBS Hitman Texturizing Spray and Paul Mitchell Reformer® were the products she used to complete the look.

Runner up Yanet used clippers for a slicked-back, undercut, tapered fade. She made it clean and fresh on the sides and long on top for styling ease with American Crew Fiber Cream and Style Sexy Spray Clay.

In third place, Shay's medium fade style was layered on top to push up and back to go with her model's hair flow. She used a #4 guard and tapered down to a #3 guard at the neck line, using thinning shears, for texturizing, and trimmers. She began with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Body Moisturizer® and used Reformer® and Sexy Hair Shaping Crème.

As honorable mentions, Jerrica's 50's-inspired scissor cut had a shorter, more modern spin. She used Sexy Hair Blow It Up and Matte Clay Texture to finish her model's style. Morgan used a razor and texturized her model's fade on the sides to give contrast and used Sexy Hair styling products Frenzy™, Not So Hard Up and Spray Clay to complete the style. Bonnie created a classic taper fade look for her model using clippers, scissors, texturizing comb and shaper shaver implements. She used Paul Mitchell Reformer® styling product and finished it off with Sexy Hair Spray Clay.

Also attending the San Antonio event were winners of the fourth annual “The Look: Student Edition,” an opportunity for enrollees in accredited beauty training settings to cut, style and share their expertise. The four winners included Rica Areans - Paul Mitchell the School Las Vegas (Las Vegas); Marlon Joe – Bold Beauty Academy (Billings, MT); Sage Bott – Paul Mitchell the School Ogden (Ogden, UT) and Hannah Kacere – Paul Mitchell the School Portland (Portland, OR). Some 92 entrants uploaded images to SportClipsJobs.com to be a part of this year's competition.
